Great share.
great shareThis is a twist of the method which @davids355 has https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/quick-tip-easily-improve-your-serps-and-traffic-with-a-little-research-on-page-seo.1240147/.
His method is brilliant but I feel this twist makes it beginner-friendlier because it doesn't involve Ahrefs which cost money.
It involves just Google Search Console which is free and very easy to use.
If you have a website, you should have already integrated Google Search Console, so let's begin.
Step 1 - Selecting the page
Go to Google Search Console > Performance > PAGES to select the page you want to optimize.
I choose data from the last 3 months but any data is usable.
Step 2 - Choosing Right Keywords
Go back to QUERIES now and check the data.
Preferably, we need long-tail keywords so that we rank easily after the optimization.
- Check how is your page performing
- Check which keyword is getting a good amount of impressions but it's not on the first page
- Check if the keyword is good for the page to be optimized around that keyword
This keyword is 6 words long and it's averaging at 14,9 position. Perfect match.
Now, find few more similar keywords(for the same page, of course).
Step 3 - Optimizing the Content
Now we have the keywords prepared and we need just to add some content on the page including the keywords we picked.
You can add whole heading or few smaller paragraphs here and there. Totally up to you. We are just updating the content while adding the keywords.
No need to change the target/main keyword of the page.
Because now we have the keywords on the page, Google will rank our page higher in the SERPs.
This costs you nothing and it takes barely 30 minutes to do it.
For example:
We have a page targeting the keyword: weight loss diet
We are ranking on the first page, 2 positions.
We find a few long-tail keywords which we already rank for but we are on the second page.
- weight loss diet for obese women - average 18 position for the same page
- weight loss diet plan to lose belly fat - average 14 position for the same page
- lose thigh fat with keto diet plan - average 22 position for the same page
We will add these keywords once or twice in the article and no doubt we will see improvement really fast.
Just don't forget to force Google to recrawl your page after the optimization in GSC:
